Children's Fine Art Lessons Starting back up Winter of 2014!!

My new home and art studio are under construction at this time.  I'm getting so excited to start lessons again! I'm developing lots of new and creative lessons right now that I can't wait to teach.  If you know me or have children that have taken lessons from me before I will contact you by email or phone when registration is available.  If you would like to contact me I can also put you on a waiting list for class enrollment since I do cap it off at 8 students per class.  Thanks for your patience!  In the meantime you can check out my blog to see what The Creative Arts Studio created last year!!

Thanks,

Some more progress made on the house and studio!  Slowly but surely we are getting there!

As of December:

You can see the outside entrance door there!  It looks like it's hanging in midair right now because there's no porch to it yet.  But there's also a window the kids can look out of to watch for their rides.

Sheetrock put on in the art studio in November!

Roof and windows put on in October.

Check out the progress made on the Art Studio as of week: September 3-6
The beginning walls of the art studio!  Side entry door!
Three great windows at the back of the room with a great mountain view!

The Art Studio is on the right side of the house with it's own entrance and will have a circular driveway for dropping off and picking up!

Spring Art Classes 2013

African Puppets
Our cultural lesson this session was about the African Pende people, a native group of  Zaire that wear very interesting costumes for their tribal dances.  These puppets took some time for the kids to make but they turned out really fun and individually unique.  Here are a few examples. Please check the Flickr Gallery at this link for all of the students' work.

Watercolor and Resist Aspens
This project used two different resist methods for Watercolors.  Age 8-12 used masking tape and ages 6-8 used white pastels for the tree shapes.  We also learned about sunlight and shadows and their effects on white objects like trees and snow.  I think the results were stunning!  I hope you do too.

Painted on canvas with acrylics, this project helped the kids to learn painting techniques with different sized brushes and consistencies of paint.

Japanese Pagoda Prints
This was one of my favorite projects.  It was a multi step project that started with a drawing of a Japanese Pagoda inspired by some Silk Embroidered artwork that I picked up from a thrift store.  We then drew them in scratch foam paper, and printed them with black paint onto the paper.  Finally, the kids painted them with watercolors.  The original artwork I have is the same design 4 times in different seasons, so the kids chose what season they wanted their painting to be in.

Colorful Kangaroos
Kangaroos just seem to be one of those animals that kids struggle with drawing so I did a fun lesson on how to draw themAges 10-12 then free hand drew them on scratch paper and ages 6-10 drew them on colored paper with chalk pastels.

Fly Guy Drawings
This session I spotlighted the author/illustrator of the "Fly Guy" series and my favorite book, "Green Wilma, Frog in Space" by Tedd Arnold.  The kids drew their favorite or their own fly guy characters using Tedd Arnold's scribbling technique.  This was so much fun!  And even more fun to see the finished products.  I think we have a few illustrators on our hands!

Abstract Shapes Oil Paintings
The oil painting class worked on creating their abstract painting using a shape and color theme.  We also learned about negative and positive space in our designs.  FYI: the background of this blog is my (Nicole's) abstract painting!  The girls really had fun with these!

Winter 2013 Art Classes

Chinese Dragon Sculptures
These amazing dragons were made from Crayola Air Dry Clay and then painted with Acrylics and sprayed with a clear coat.  This has got to be the best way to learn and celebrate Chinese New Year!  The kids did an awesome job.  Here are a few examples but you can check out the entire gallery of students' work at:

Acrylic Artic Animals
These paintings were done on large pieces of poster board using the floor easels.  The kids always enjoy our easel projects each year.  Each class painted a different Artic animal using shades and tints of blues.  This type of painting is a great way to teach the kids how to mix colors and brush application technique.  Great job my amazing artists!  Check out the gallery at:
